The countdown is on. With 27 days until America’s Thanksgiving Parade presented by Art Van, M-1 RAIL is plowing ahead full force to complete roadway construction on Woodward Ave. Barrels, type-three barricades, and cones alike will vanish like Houdini. Drivers, already noticing the openness of areas along the corridor will have access to a newly restored Woodward Avenue. “It will be a better road for cars and pedestrians…certainly more walkable,” said Community Relations Coordinator, Domeda Duncan. “Children and parents will have sidewalks equipped for curb side-seating and foldable chairs – a necessity for young parade goers.”
Safety is at the forefront of all things M-1 RAIL. We ask that all parade-goers follow posted signage and observe posted maintenance of traffic. As we shift from construction to testing, it will be imperative that visitors and residents understand what it means to coexist with the rail. One-hundred percent of track will have been installed and back-filled with concrete by Thanksgiving. Viewing capacity is expected to be higher than any time since the start of since construction.
Many have been asking, “Will a QLINE vehicle make an appearance,” and while that sounds incredibly tempting, the answer is not just yet. However, be on the lookout for the Quicken Loans sponsored QLINE float to make an appearance.
M-1 RAIL continues to work closely with The Parade Company “to ensure that the tradition of the parade route remains in place as it passes by some of Detroit’s most notable landmarks.” Hooray for seamless collaboration and celebrating a 90 year tradition!
