Dencap advocates for keeping Dentists in Detroit

Posted: 12/11/15

31 years ago in response to dentists fleeing the city to suburban communities, two men took a stand to ensure that the residents of Detroit would continue to have access to high quality dental care. Together Joseph Lentine Sr. and Dr. Frank Kutherall founded Dencap, a dental insurance firm that began serving primarily Detroiters with a network of 25 dedicated dentists and has since expanded to serve subscribers throughout Michigan.

Located in the heart of the historic North End neighborhood on Milwaukee St., this second generation family business prides itself on three solid principals; diversity, fairness and community service.  Led by President Joseph T. Lentine, Executive Vice President Dawn Dorsch and Manager of Strategic Initiatives Angela T. Lentine, Dencap carries these principals forward, resulting in continued record growth. The staff has increased from ten people to 36 in under ten years, with plans for expansion in 2016.  With previous experience in the automotive sector from Joseph’s  21 year career as a Supply Chain Management Executive with General Motors, to Dawn’s expertise in business development honed through previous positions most recently with Faurecia, their backgrounds have helped to shape the plan for success and Dencap’s road map to the future.

Part of their success is due to an employment model that values diversity across gender, race ethnicity and age.  “We work in a customer service driven industry, so we seek out employees who believe in putting customers first and can provide a valuable perspective into our company.”

As one of the leading dental insurance providers in Michigan, Dencap serves over 100,000 subscribers in Wayne County alone through contracts with the Detroit Medical Center, a variety of small businesses and participants in the Healthy Michigan Plan. Their expansive network offers subscribers a choice of over 120 dentists throughout the state, with a particular concentration in Southeastern Michigan.

Dedicated to the City of Detroit, Dencap has strong ties to the Detroit Kiwanis Club, with Joseph Lentine Sr. having served with the organization for over 40 years. This passion for community service has been passed down to his children and staff members. Under the second generation of the Lentine family, Dencap has supported a variety of  organizations reaching thousands of Metro Detroit families including The Coalition on Temporary Shelter, Cass Community Services, City Year, Ruth Ellis Center, Matrix Human Services, the Kiwanis Club annual Book Drive and more.

So what makes Joseph Lentine excited to lead Dencap into the future here in Detroit? The ability to be continue to be a part of Detroit’s resurgence. “Over the last ten year’s we’ve seen the great changes taking place in the city. There are more people moving back into the area, small businesses making the choice to invest in the city and it’s become a more active area,” said Lentine.

Dencap is located at 45 Milwaukee St, Detroit, MI 48202. To learn more about current plans available and employment opportunities please visit www.dencap.com or call 866.864.2534.
