The Last Class, M-1 RAIL will be hiring Interns!

Are you looking for a rewarding summer employment experience? Why spend another summer flipping burgers or cleaning out fitting rooms when you can gain real world experience in the world of transportation and civil engineering across the varied professions it takes to build and manage and successful project.   For third year, M-1 RAIL is excited to participate in the City of Detroit’s Grow Detroit’s Young Talent’s program as a program provider with youth employment agency City Connect Detroit. Under this partnership we are happy to announce we will begin taking applications for the 2016 M-1 RAIL Summer Internship Program beginning Thursday, May 5, 2016.

This year in addition to Detroit’s young people opportunities to work on site with M-1 RAIL, interns will be placed with several of our project contractors HNTB, Stacy & Witbeck, Inc. and Somat Engineering, Additionally small business mitigation partner The Downtown Detroit Partnership’s sister agency, The Detroit Experience Factory will host interns. This year’s positions will span the spectrum of business support, communications, engineering and external relations.

All applicants must be between the ages of 16 – 24 as of July 1, 2016, entering their junior year to recent college graduate and a City of Detroit Resident. If you attend school out of state, Detroit must be your primary residency during the non-academic portion of the year. This paid internship will run from Wednesday, July 6 to Wednesday, August 17. Interns are exposed to not just high quality summer employment experiences where they will have the opportunity to explore potential careers, they will also grow personally. During this year’s internship community partner, MOSES will lead a 36 hour professional and personal development training for the interns held throughout the internship. They will focus on providing interns with life skills in the area of healthy living, finance, conflict resolution, inclusion and diversity, resume writing, building your personal brand and much more. Students will also participate in a day of service that will expose them to other neighborhoods and local non-profits that are working to meet the needs of residents across the City and the region.

The application process will open on Thursday, May 5 and will kick off with the 2016 M-1 RAIL Summer Internship Pre-Application Orientation. This event will be held at The Matrix Center located at 13560 E. McNichols Detroit, MI 48205. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the meeting will run from 6 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. Come and learn more about the various positions available, what to makes a successful candidate and more.
