It’s summer and with the warm weather comes more people, outdoor activities and the downsizing of homes by new empty-nesters. Many of them have one thing in common: a desire to live in one of the greatest cities on earth, Detroit, particularly in the Greater Downtown area. That can be tricky as developers strive to keep up with the demand. Currently there are close to 700 new units of rental housing set to open in the next three years to help met this pent up needs. The Grand and Third Project, led by Peter Cummings, is looking to make a mark in the New Center neighborhood.
The new development will be conveniently located near the QLINE and is scheduled to break ground by end of year. Grand and Third, a $50 million project, will have 5 floors of luxury housing with units ranging from 500 square feet studios, 625-925 square feet one bedroom units, and 1,100 square feet two bedroom apartments. While building amenities haven’t been released yet, there will be onsite parking and 20,000 feet or commercial space. This highly sought after area is close to New Center Park, the Fisher Theater, Café con Leche, and new residential neighbor, Regis Houze apartments.
If you are interested in learning about project details, next week, the Coleman A. Young Municipal Center will be hosting a public hearing. The meeting will be held on Thursday, July 14, 2016 at 10:05 AM in the Council Chambers, located on the 13th floor. If you have any questions, feel free to call 313.237.4612.
